Standing in your shadow,
My head flowers
Into a kaleidoscope
Of swirling petals:
Black, red, white roses
ringed with chrysanthemums,
sunflowers, lilies and peonies.

My eyes become pools of nectar;
My tongue a coil of thorns;
My neck a green stem swaying in the breeze;
My skin is wood chips and mulch
spread over rich soil.

No sunlight or water touches me…
But in your shadow
I feel hundreds of seeds
A promise of Eden
beneath my skin
